An introduction

Meet tempeh.

Not tofu. Not soya chunks. Something completely different.

Tempeh is made by naturally fermenting whole soybeans into a firm, protein-rich cake. Instead of pressing curds like tofu, a live culture binds the whole bean together over about 36 hours — so you get the entire bean: its protein, its fibre, its texture.

Fermentation matters because it's what gives tempeh its firm bite, nutty flavour, and easy digestibility — all without needing additives, fillers or preservatives to hold it together.

Questions

FAQ & Benefits

What is tempeh?

Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian food made by naturally fermenting whole soybeans (or other beans and grains) into a firm, protein-rich cake.

How much protein does Fermente tempeh contain?

Our Classic Soy Tempeh contains roughly 22g+ of complete plant protein per 100g serving.

How do I cook tempeh?

Slice, marinate, steam, pan-fry, air-fry or crumble it — most people steam or briefly pan-fry first, then use it in curries, stir-fries, bowls, wraps or burgers.

Does tempeh taste like soy?

It has a firm, nutty, slightly earthy flavour from fermentation — quite different from plain soy chunks or tofu — and takes on marinades well.

How should I store it?

Keep it refrigerated and consume by the date printed on the pack.

How long does it last?

Check the best-before date on your specific pack — it varies by batch and product.

Is Fermente vegan?

Yes — every Fermente product is 100% plant-based.

Is Fermente gluten-free?

Most varieties are — check the tags on each product for specifics, as recipes can vary by batch.

What is fermentation?

A natural process where a live culture transforms whole beans over time — building flavour and texture without additives or preservatives.
